"Shift Happens"

This final week in sociology, we looked at globalization. We watched a movie called "Shift Happens," which talked about how technology had been being advances into our lives, and the many differences and advancements it had brought that we wouldn't have possibly thought about, even in our wildest imaginations. Technology and new issues that happen worldwide allow for more opportunities to be brought to the people which were never offered before, neither thought about. As societies and the world advances, to keep ahead and to stay strong and motivated, our school systems should be more diverse in the subjects that are brought forward for students to take.  International learning and education about different cultures allows students to be more aware of who the real world is and as well, helps students/ people to be more understanding that people live in many ways and forms which must be respected by all. Changes in information processing has been changing very rapidly. Technologies are widely spread out for more users to be able to take the advancement of technology at low prices. We have the capabilities to advance and for more people to stay in touch, which in the end helps the world become unified, not in the means that everyone thinks the same, but everyone understands. Culture has helped me understand the movie a lot. In the book, they discuss who in different countries, such as the middle east, "western barbie dolls" are not allowed, and they have their own barbie which allows kids to have their childhood fun, while still respecting the religion or way of life. Technology allows entrepreneurs to better understand the world and prevent from problems to happen and a market to be produced where everyone is involved and everyone can get their benefits, needs, and wants.

Urban/Suburban/Rural Life

Since I was born, I have been raised in the same house. The city in which my family and I live has been chaining dramatically over time.  I have seen the population increase all the way to new and more advanced ways of life. Clear open land with trees got replaced with hotels and shopping centers. The population has been very diverse way before I was born. More jobs were offered here because it is a close and inexpensive city to start a family with good financial stability. After being over populated, and high demand, land was bought to create huge multi-family apartments which led to more schools and jobs. As the standard of living got inexpensive, more people started moving into this city, which cause violence as well. I remember in middle school, gang violence was heavily feared and the city enforced and strengthened their force to help control violence, and make this city more cleaner and safer. This city is very clean, and really takes pride of those who live here. Making sure that this city looked nice, the mayor spent a lot of tax money to improve side walks, roads, and utilities were improved. As the population increased, more provisions were made from government input in the community to school and other improved and upgraded facilities for all. I have seen this city become more adverse and expanding as the years go on.

Understanding Our Political System

Looking at democracy and how our government and the people work together to make the U.S. a better place is really remarkable. We have government which helps take care of the people, and the people give their input to the government to see how rules are and whether or not they should be kept or not. Our government is pretty remarkable. Rules are not made unless they are need by the people. If laws have problems, than they can be taken away or amended to fit the terms of the people of this county and the government. This allows things to be smooth, and when they aren't, we the people have the right to raise our voice and tell how we feel about issues.

What helps keep our nation together and power in democracy are laws. When we think of powers in a democratic nation, we see that the people are a power and so is government. What keeps these powers welded together to prevent any problems. I work on cars, and when you weld metal, you put two pieces of metal and make them one, and the only way welding works is if they are equal. Laws help establish and help the power in our nation to be given equally, so the people can decide who can help them be more efficient. That is what government is, its a system that helps the common people become efficient and to solve problems. Our government has to listen to our problems and help resolve them and make sure that it never comes up again.

Laws are made and they are changed. We have a ratification process which allow amendments and laws to be ratified or changed. This process allows the government and the people to work better hand in hand and allows the nation to run smoothly without problems. We see problems in our government when their are differences which cause riots and people to fight for their rights. The people of this nation have freedom and the government does too. Freedom allows their to be equality and not indifferences and problems.

Is Walmart Good for America?

Getting to look at work and the economy this week for sociology, many things come to mind of how things I read related to my work and how everything balanced out and how there was a cycle of the economy. We got the chance to look at Wal-Mart, not just the floor where more than hundred thousand products where available to the common family/individual, but we got to see how Wal-Mart ran business and how it managed to offer great incentives, deals, and low prices while its competitors were held by barriers that couldn't allow them to ever go near Wal-Mart’s low prices without think about what great loses they would incur. The question comes down to whether or not Wal-Mart is good or bad for the U.S. In the movie about Wal-Mart, we got to see the effects of business and how Wal-Mart "bullied" in the words of companies that supplied Wal-Mart with goods said when they were ignored and pressured to lower their prices. I think Wal-Mart is good for the common family/individual, but one thing to look at is that so many companies are shut down because they can't sell because they don't to lower their prices, which causes Wal-Mart to think of taking their products of the shelves. Companies have shown in the past to go out of business because their profit was decreasing because Wal-Mart wouldn't decrease the price of the product the company sold to Wal-Mart because their cost to manufacture that product has increased, thus they would need a price increase to cover production cost as well as profit margin. Wal-Mart wants their prices to be low, and have special techniques to making their prices seem low, which stated in the video, sometimes just aren't. Over all, Wal-Mart is good. It allows the weaker companies to rethink how they need to do business and lets the strong companies stay in business. Wal-Mart dominates in retail chain store industries. They have gone worldwide, and have found ways to decrease price, and have allowed people to live a better standard of physical living by providing low prices on products and services (Automotive, i.e. Oil Changes; Pharmacy; Eye Care). They provide low prices and jobs which in the end help our economy. Sure companies shut down because of their practices, but they allow stronger companies to be formed and companies to make better relations with Wal-Mart and for companies to look for smarter and cheaper resources that have stability and won’t increase price over time. Wal-Mart is good for America. It not only helps the common family/ individual, but helps our economy by providing jobs and a market to new products.

ps. did anyone else see the Wal-Mart cheer? love the squiggly line

The Domestic Division of Labor

Growing up and seeing how my family and I have evolved from chores and responsibilities over the years, shows how the "division of labor" in a family changes over times and need. I filled out the chart, and also saw how some of the descriptions shown didn't correspond to our family now, but back in the day, my parents would have to do those things. Many of things get changed in my family, everyone has responsibilities from who does what and what is expected from each family member, but if one can't put in their part, someone else will always come in and help out.

When I was filling out a Family Duties table, I saw that many of the duties/responsibilities had more than one person assigned to them, because in our family their has never been chores or responsibilities assigned, we all knew that these had to be taken care of and we did, but that doesn't mean we just did what ever we wanted to do, we would tell everyone in the house and tell them that we were going to do and ask if someone else was going to do it and if we needed help too. Communication in our family is essential, along with every family. I have seen this countless times, when communication sucks, problems occur. So we cherish being able to talk and discuss matter and situations.

I do agree, some of the things in families are left to certain people. For example, cooking, my dad is horrible at cooking (just in case he reads this, no offense pops). My mom always cooks, and everyone loves it. In a good family, one task isn't left for one person to do. We all work on it together as a team and not as captains of project managers. A family is supposed to run as one, and never as individuals. Helping my sister and I, our parents always worked together to help us with homework. My dad was good at math so he helped us with that, and my mom was very good and helpful when working punctuation and grammar, so she helped a lot with that. We would work in such a way that we were efficient with time. We got our family time by working on math problems and having a laugh at how I would make 5-3= 1. Being time efficient is something every family needs to be. Managing time for each and every individual and making sure the bonds in families are very important, even if it means only spending a few minutes, well its better than nothing.

With my family, I have learn't a lot abotu how duties are supposed to be given out and how a family is supposed to behave and cooperate. Helping one another with a duty and responibility is what makes families strong and close. I know some will argue that you don't become independent, but hey, your supposed to dependent on your loved ones and family.

Religion and Government

In my opinion, religion has no role in government. If we look at the United States as an example, having one religion and the concepts of that religion run the aspects of a muti-cultural and multi-religion nation, then it wouldn't relate to many lives and just wouldn't be efficient.  Life wouldn't be the same if religion had a role in government. People wouldn't feel that they have an equal right knowing that the land of the free has a religion that has an influence on government. The people wouldn't have a sense of security knowing that the government will help them and not favor a particular religion over another. Religion is based on beliefs, and not all religions have beliefs that correlate with one another. Government is supposed to be free of beliefs of a particular group or religion, and should just be the voice of the people and what helps keep peace, and not something that bring's its citizens, its people pain and insecurity.

We can also look at other nations, whose government is already intervened with religion, and we see the outcomes of those nations. More insecurities and more chances of people going against their religion because of certain beliefs. Government isn't meant to have religion influences, but it should maintain a tolerance and assist people to better follow their religion knowing that the government will never have anything to do with their beliefs and won't try to change them.

Government has evolved over time. We can see from the colonizations of the states, that people fled from the government because of religion based persecutions such as the one caused by the notorious Queen Marry or better known as "Bloody Merry." Government can start with a small amounts of influence and role of government, but it would start growing and growing, cause religion is beliefs that help live and put lives on a better more focused path towards their enlightenment, and a way of life could just become the dominant religion and cause insecurities and indifferences for the people of that nation.

Internment of Japanese Americans

This week in class we had to read about a Japanese family who was sent to camps because of their ethnicity. Their were generations who were well established in America and were sent to camps and were mistreated because of their beliefs and their thoughts, and more importantly because of their looks. The family had not committed any crime but were sent to these camps because they were suspected of plotting to bring terror to the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This kind of treatment and segregation because of the way one looks was completely wrong by United State's part. I understand that when as a nation we are at war, their maybe this suspicion looking at one's neighbor and wondering if they think wrong and would harm this nation. People have to see how bad that it. I am a Sikh. My religion says that I should keep a identity without cutting my hair and wearing a turban. After the attacks on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon, a lot of people thought of me as a muslim extremist. Just because of my identity, people looked at me wrong and people I considered friends, ended up judging me. I was in 5th grade when it happened, and I remember how we got news of what happened, and after they found out who was behind it all, people judged me along with many other Sikhs just because of our identity, and because they just couldn't take it, they would cut their hair and try to loose and disconnect themselves with their roots and religion. Sikhism is a worldwide religion and not restricted to one place. I never knew why people didn't know the difference, between us and them. Our beliefs were different and how we lived was a beyond different. I understand how they might have felt. With such discrimination, they had to go to camps and face segregation from the rest of the world and some had to stay away from their families. It just hurts that such a strong nation still has these problems, but they are getting better and people are being smarter to learn of one another and not be arrogant, or seeming arrogant because the lack of knowledge.

Gender Inequality

Gender Inequality is a very important issue when we think about how societies work and how they view one another. When sociologists look at gender differences, they look to see how society behave with male and female, individually and as a whole which allows them to see how people work together. This is a very deep and important topic that often causes many conflicts in society. We see indifferences all around the world, from many different time periods, and sadly even today.

In the text, Introduction to Sociology, their was a section about how families looked at the birth of  a child in the family. How the reactions of family members differed because of the gender of their new born. Over time, it seems that people do stop to directly show that their is no difference between girls and boys, but they still indirectly differentiate a lot. Its very unfortunate to see that their were people, and yet still till this day people who believe that the birth of a girl is bad. Girls don't get treated as well as boys do. As mentioned in the book, boys get more attention. The inequality does exist. Just recently, when the 2009 Presidential elections were taking place, many people, even women were doubting whether or not a lady would be suited for the job and responsibility of a president. It is very difficult to see that women, knowing the prejudice and the downward look from society on women, still will criticize another women to doing something good and something that can benefit women to higher and more opportunities of work in fields that were man dominated.

It is sad to see women creating inequalities between each other and not being supportive for the tasks they have never been able to uphold before, but what is more hurting is when parents show such negative inequality they have for one child over the other because of gender. Gender inequality has been a practice by parents of those who reside in countries that have/ had not seen the positive in raising children of the gender. For example, the Romans. They were told to kill their children if they were girls or small and weak babies. Those inequalities were set because Rome was a dominant empire and wanted  to hold their strength and their empire, but today, children and considered burdens. My parents are from Punjab, India and they as well as other family have told me countless about how life for girls is considered to be very difficult. Raising and giving birth to a girl is considered an expense and headache, because parents have to look after her well being and have to provide for her when she won't be giving anything back to the family, because eventually when she turns of age, she is set to get married. Boys on the other hand are said to be assets because they will provide for the family once the parents are old and look after the house and business after them. This ill thinking and discrimination against children isn't setup by parents themselves, but society.

Society shows the negative affect of having one gender child over the other. It is utmost unbearable to have to listen to my parents and family talking about things that girls are considered to be an expense. I have sisters, and they mean a lot to me, and it is a shame that their are families out their that give no respect to their children just because they are a girl. Children aren't a business, but society makes it seem like rearing a child and caring for them and having to withstand them is a job which bears fruits of pain.

Society has many faults, but the fault and the mistake that many arrogant and ignorant people don't seem to see is that problems like gender inequality are nothing more then waste of time. Everyone is created equal and society and no one has the ability or right to put barriers on one's potential because of how someone is, and especially not because of gender. Unfortunately, this happens, because people won't speak up for what is wrong, and go with what society says. People are so concerned with what others will think of them, that they forget to live life. Life is one's own, and not to be shared with society and people who wouldn't care about happens to you in times of need. People who stranded their children for death, because of societies' unwritten rule that one gender is better than the other, miss out on so much happiness that they had.  These situations and problems aren't meant to be protested against by riots and violence, but to be dealt by indirectly going against the rules of society and living for one's life. Its your life, you have say, not society of what happens and doesn't. This rebellion against societies unjust does seem to be difficult, but lives are saved anf their is more happiness that goes around instead of hate and violence.

Why We Should Care About Global Inequality

The United States being a world power and a country with great wealth. We should care about global inequality because it affects us as well. A county generates its wealth by exporting. You always want to export more than you import. If the economy in other countries is good as well, then they will be able to buy our goods and help the global economy to increase and to better itself from hardships such as recessions and depressions. Countries who do not have the stability as we do can use help to find what they are good at manufacturing and help them industrialize.

Their are countries where people have the ability to do very well. They have resources to do really well, but they lack the ability to do well because they are unorganized. The United States should help jump these  potential economies for betterment and work to help them strive. We all can benefit from helping those countries. We can provide them with tools, education, knowledge and leadership. We can help to make stronger governments which in return help the people to better and produce more to raise and country's GNP.

A county such as the United States has the ability to help those who need it to support themselves and get on their own feet and have their nation's people strive and be successful. The global economy relies that all who seek to trade and do business, work with other countries to set up good communication which allows them to work better and see where one could need help. United Sates may still be in debit, but we still are working and are more successful than other countries, and helping other countries can help us export more to them, and in the long run get out of debt.

Social Class in the US: How much do you think it matters?

Today's world here is the U.S. is all about diversity. People from many different background and ethnicities reside in the U.S. and call it home. The use the open opportunity to seek freedom from oppression from government and societies that affect and cause one to never succeed. But, when we look at out society closely, we can see that we, here in the U.S. have our own class system. Money and income divides everything. People, make groups and look down upon people in the classes below them.

Even though, it is not implied by rules and laws, society still has the social classes which cause people to think differently of people just because of how they are from the way the look, to the things they buy, and to the cars we drive. Their are many things one will look at to differentiate someone and to place barriers between one another. Many things that we look at today are influenced by social classes, once again, which are not implies.

I got the chance to watch a few clips of PBS:People Like Us, and I noticed that in one of the clips, they were telling about how products and restaurants where made just for the upper class, for those who can afford to spend so much. Economically, their are many things that have been differentiated between classes. This has helped the economy progress, because it tends to be that upper class as seen in the PBS:People Like Us documentary don't have the want or the likeness of work and associating with people that are below their class. It is not that fact that they need their special places to eat and dine, or to shop, but the necessity that people with money will buy more and create jobs and allow for people to have employment and for money to move and circulate in the economy.

Social Class is a brutal issue. We need it, but yet it causes so many problems and diversities from what we call "One Nation." We don't need these classes to run our society, but they are in place for our economy, not because we don't want to associate with one another, their are a few snobs who won't associate and place themselves above all others. Social class only helps the economy to move, by providing luxuries people would buy or not buy depending on income. Transportation is a very big and important example, and a big market. Their are cars like Ferraris and Maybach's which only certain people would buy according to their income, this diversity helps our economy grow and move, otherwise our economy would move very slowly. These classes also provide for specialized jobs which also help our economy. Social class should have a boundary of just maintaining our economy to make sure it works smoothly.

Conformity: Is it a problem?

Conformity is when people follow the authority of someone with more power and more authority. In some cases this is good. Being able to know that people fear and live under the law and understand order, but in the video we students of Prof. Bobys sociology 200 class saw was about conformity but under the authority of people who cause harm. Stanley Milgram conducted an experiment involving a teacher who would have to give electric shocks to a student (who is involved in the experiment and knows what is going on) whenever the student gets a question wrong. The experiment is a bit eery for those who have to turn the switches for the shocks. The screaming and the yelling of the student who says they are having a bad heart ache and have had been diagnosed for heart problems is all recorded on a playback, and played out loud when the student gives false answers. This test was to see how the teachers reacted and what they did when they were told to press the switches, also remember that the teachers were not forced at all, no harsh treatment was done, but persuasion that they SHOULD continue.

Stanley got the idea for the experiment to see what caused the Nazi soldiers to act in the way they did. He organized the experiment and saw that majority of them kept on going with the experiment until the recording was finished, which they thought was the death of the student. It truly is a good experiment to understand obedience. It is a good and an experiment that didn't break any rules of morality.

Now, in my honest opinion, I think it is an issue that needs to be looked at in today's time and date. If we can see, their are many issues arising where their is an authoritative person missing in charge. Take for example Egypt's power issues. Their is no authoritative figure, the one that was is getting thrown out. In time of struggle, we see issues arising, people can be misled and misused like they were when Hitler came into power. These are situations to be looked at, regardless of how good someone's morals are, they will still act under pressure and take the wrong decision. its support they lack to stand up from the pressure and act smarter and take the better decision.

People need to be able to take their own decisions, and people need to be able to be led by a leader who lets them be moral with their decisions. With the wrong authority, people won't be able to make their decisions, they will have the fear that lurks over the head, and they will choose the wrong. With the right authority, people will be more free to choose what is right and wrong, and good law and government will help ensure that people don't make those wrong decisions.

The Criminal Justice System: Community Policing or Shaming

When we look at crime, we see that the biggest group who has an affect of that crime is our society, the community. Communities look at crimes via media, and they use these crimes to help make themselves learn from other's mistakes. This helps society better themselves from issues such as crime. School and parents will teach their children to avoid this things at young ages and help them go in the right direction with support.

Now, the questions comes to whether or not communities should be able to decide what should be the outcome of a criminal. In my point of view, it shouldn't be. Communities learn from these mistakes, and better themselves with such things as neighborhood watches. Communities shouldn't have the right to decide what to do with a criminal. In many cases, the community is the victim to the criminal's behavior, but if the community was to decide what to do with that criminal, than it would cause the criminal to have a permanent label, which they would never be able to take away, even if they did try to do good and fix themselves and their ways.

Shaming anyone is a disgrace to a community. It's not just shaming the criminal, but the community as a whole. A community should try to better themselves, even if they have a criminal. They should set an example that they were able to perfect their flaws, and help a criminal get on the right track by working a honest living, by supporting his family, and by paying taxes. This is what communities should do rather than embarrassing and mocking someone for their mistakes. The United States is a democracy, the people have the power, the people have the ability to choose and make their decisions, and the people have the responsibility of helping their neighbor, so they can strive to be better community, a better city, a better state, a better nation.

Nature V.S. Nurture

Nature or Nurture. Whats right and whats wrong. It is the way one looks at this debate. How one thinks society is setup, is completely their opinion. When I look at the debate,  I would say everything comes to both nature and nurture.  The way one is raised, and the values they obtain from soaking in while the observe their parents, peers, and their community. We live in a world where things, such as things that happen in the world, the news affect how we look at things, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will react according to the world or to how everyone else they are around reacts. They can have a different nature, where they react and respond to problems differently.

Now, in the 3 minute lecture, they used an example of the equality of women and men. People can say that it us nature that man are dominant, or people can conclude that it is how they are raised and placed in society, but in my point of view it is both. Just because in some societies, they believe that women are naturally supposed to stay at homes and do chores, while men are more dominant, doesn't mean that peoples views can't change. People will see that because society is like that, their views don't have to match. This is what causes changes in societies, and people to think more proactive about issues.

Hugh Laurie's song for America: American Culture- A Look From Outsiders

In a small clip on youtube, from a comedy show on BBC, a singer who is dressed up in very street and informal clothing sings a song about America. The singer looks as if he doesn't care about the way he looks, and careless about his image. He wears a plaid shirt with a bandana and his hair is very messy, greasy, and sloppy. Their are only but three words in his song,  "America" and "The States." To give some insight about the video and the background. The show is a British comedy show, which is not limited to its views and tell anything the way they perceive it to bring a few laughs.

Now, the video shows what possibly might what British culture perceives Americans as. They show that Americans don't look at their image and don't worry about weather or not we care about first impressions or not. They show then when the singer sings, when he first begins to sing "America," the crowd begins to laugh. The way that the singer depicts Americans to be makes the audience laugh and shows that they think that Americans are hilarious with how they look, act and behave.

The singer only sings about one thing, America. The verses to his song are nothing complex at all either, just basic repetition of "America" and "the states." The verses seem to show that American people are self absorbed and onyx care about themselves. Patriotic, yes, but the laughter of the audience suggests otherwise. The laughter directs the audience to believe that maybe, they don't believe that the singer shows passion towards America, but shows how they view Americans to be.

Just to how much certain people see, thats how they assume all the people to be. Many cultures will view others by just how they see them in the media, or how others have viewed them. This causes stereotypes.   At the end of the clip, we see that a man in a suit comes and punches the singer. Being a British show, it just shows that they needed a British to tell the American to shut up, according to the show that is. This just goes to show, if different cultures could see each other's cultures, in depth that is, than they would appreciate each other a lot more and come to cease with the awkward and bizarre stereotypes.

Stanford Prison Experiment: Ethical or Unethical?

After viewing a few videos about Dr. Zimbardo's experiment with prison which involved his college students, I saw that the experiment was completely unethical. I understand, that they took it as a experiment to learn, but for many of the students that participated in it, were left with scars that they will never forget. I happened to stumble across another video with a student who was a guard, and another who was a prisoner, and the prisoner said he didn't feel like it was a experiment, but as if they were in a real prison.

Before we go into detail about how I believe the experiment to be a unethical, I wanna share some information about the experiment. It was an experiment designed by Dr. Zimabardo, and students of a class he taught participated in begin randomly selected to being chosen as a prison guard, or a prison inmate. The experiment was supposed to run 2 weeks, but was cut back to 6 days because of the negative intensity the lurked on the experiment. Now the guards getting power, misused it, and helped make the atmosphere more jail like. This is where the problem beings.

The students as prisoners had to stay in their cells for 24 hours, while the guards only had to stay for 8. This caused the prisoners to have the feeling that it was real, and not an experiment. Students went through so much torture from their classmates, that they ended up not being able to consciously say that they want to quit the experiment. The guards put pressure on the prisoners, and mistreated them

The experiment is unethical. If we look at it, the experiment wasn't an experiment but a really intense temporary feel of negativity. The shock and what the students had to go through left permanent scars which are still talked about today. Both the guards and the prisoners (students) felt as if they changed when they went in costume. The guards took advantage of their power, which goes to show that power without responsibility is bad for society and an individual. This experiment made the students loose their focus of what was the main reason they are going thru the experiment and what the hypothesis was. The corruption in the experiment was power.

Even in today's world, the Abu Ghraib incident with the guards and the prisoners has been such a negative outlook on the United States. It isn't a positive to mistreat prisoners. It is inhumane and is shunned upon by society. Leaving prisoners to have permanent scars of what went on with them while they were in custody. Its a terrible thing to let power get the best of you.

The things we encounter shouldn't just be things we see, but things we learn from. No matter what it is, we always can take a learning experience from everything. We learned that power without responsibility just causes problems and get to people's head which lead to hurtful action. Always learn from things we see and hear. It helps make us better people to learn from mistakes, but not just of ours but of other's mistakes a swell.

Blog #1: Getting Started with Soc 200

Hey class. You guys may have already known, my name is Angdhdev Kahlon. I am currently going to NOVA to get my associates in business. I am almost near my ending point of getting my degree. I have been living in northern Virginia since I was born. Pretty much used  and well aware of the people, the surroundings, the traffic on Route 7, the cool places to see, interesting places to go. I grew up here in northern VA. Went to Herndon High, and here I am now, at NOVA, working on my degree. I am really passionate and detailed for the things I do, otherwise, why spend valuable time doing something you don't care for?

Now to tell, a bit about why I am taking this class. For starters, it was required to getting my degree. I chose this course over the other classes, because it seemed to catch my attention a lot more and seemed to be interesting, and something I can use later on in the world of business and communicating and being sociable. But most importantly, a someone really special to yours truly  recommended that I take the class for i would enjoy it a lot.

After NOVA, my goals are to go to a four year university and get my masters in business and get a good paying job. Just have an honest living and being helpful to those who need.  I am not sure if i will stay in-state or go out of state for college. I am pushing to go out of state, but I still have to do many transfer applications, which hopefully after getting settled in this semester i will start to fill out.

I like watching T.V. or let me correct myself, "liked" ever since college and working part-time tutoring students in math & reading, watching T.V. has become a 30 second thing from where it once used to be a 5-7 hours on saturdays watching cartoons, and indian soap-operas. I used to watch the SPEED Channel a lot too. I am really passionate about cars. I worked on cars too, back when I had more time before i entered the world of college. I also used to go to do auto tracking and race on a track for timed laps and neck-to-neck style races out in Maryland. I liked being able to put work into a car, and to see the finished product, performance, made me grin knowing that this is something i did. Working with my hands, and seeing the finished product and seeing this is something i accomplished, something i could do, which shows me my capabilities. I can look back and always know that no matter what, if I put myself towards it, I can accomplish it, I can do well.

Music is another thing I really like. I listen to large variety of music, from many different genres. I, myself am a musician. I play the Dhol, a South Asian drum, which I picked up from my culture in Punjab, India. I not only play the Dhol, I collect them too. After getting well aware of how these drums are made, and how much it takes to make them produce such a clean and crisp note, it gave me more reason to enjoy and to appreciate the maintenance that went into taking care of these drums.
